I moved to DC in 2014 and never left. This neighborhood is my home: you’ll find me running at the Cardozo track, working out at the Y, catching $7 movies at Atlantic Plumbing, or celebrating my birthday at American Ice Company. I’ve coached high school debate at Cardozo, and currently serve as our neighborhood’s elected Democratic precinct representative and on the ANC Community Engagement Committee. I’m most proud of helping secure city grant funding for this year’s 12th Place block party.
I am a lawyer and Georgetown Law graduate, and have always pursued public service. I served as a policy advisor in the Obama White House Office of Cabinet Affairs, practiced at a DC law firm, and was States Counsel on the Harris and Biden campaigns. I have put that background to work for my neighbors by representing DC property owners in legal disputes with the National Guard, defending candidates in ballot access challenges before the DC Board of Elections, and representing immigrant asylum seekers before USCIS.
Today, I run the DC statehood organization Capital Rights Lab, where I have testified before the DC Council on the federal takeover of MPD and ranked-choice voting, and published pieces in GGWash, The 51st, the George Washington Law Review, the Anchorage Daily News, and The Tennessean. I am dedicated to our community and look forward to making it even better on the ANC.
Our neighborhood can be a great place to live, but we deserve better. Trash pickup is skipped, snow clearing takes weeks, and rats are everywhere. I will expand the DC rat control pilot program here and hold the city accountable so we get the services we need.
In the last four years, 1B03 has missed out on thousands of dollars in community grants. That’s why I joined the ANC Community Engagement Committee, where I finally secured grant funding for the 12th Place block party. As Commissioner, I’ll keep fighting for our fair share of resources and events.
Rising costs are forcing our neighbors and business owners to make difficult choices. I will champion more affordable and transit-oriented housing, and work to fill vacant storefronts so we can all afford to call this area home.
